Ever since Manchester United decided to loan Eric Bailly to Marseille, the player has been under a lot of scrutiny.
That’s what happens when you sign for one of the big French clubs from one of the biggest teams in the world, especially when injuries have plagued you throughout your career.
Signed for a lot of money by Manchester United, Bailly has spent a lot of time injured during his time at Old Trafford, which is why he fell down the pecking order under various managers, including Erik ten Hag.
A move to Marseille was organised, with the Ligue 1 side having the option to make the move permanent for a small fee.
Unfortunately for Bailly, he has suffered a few niggles here and there throughout the first half of the campaign, but he is now back, having used the World Cup break to work on his fitness as he followed a specific training plan to ensure his past problems didn’t return.
He started against Montpellier on Monday, and following a good performance in his team’s 2-1 win, La Provence spoke to the former Ivory Coast manager Patrice Beaumelle about the Manchester United loanee.
He said: “If he isn’t bothered by muscular issues, he is, for me, one of the best defenders in the world. An exceptional player. He showcases a monstrous power, an ease, he’s really quick, he’s hard in the challenge, always in the right place. He has everything.
“However, he’s always bothered by these little issues and everyone is reserved about him. We know he has everything, but we want to see it. If he manages to play a month non-stop, we’ll be able to see him at his highest level.”
