Everton star Amadou Onana has admitted he is looking to use Euro 2024 as a stage in which to potentially secure a move to a bigger club this summer.
The midfielder has been speaking to Het Laatste Niuews about his plans for the summer as he gears up to be a major part of Belgium’s team in Germany.
The midfielder has long been linked with a move away from Everton, who it is believed will need to secure at least one major sale this summer to help balance the books.
Onana appears to be the prime candidate and has been earning attention from some of the biggest clubs in Europe for several months, with Bayern Munich, Barcelona and several of the top six in the Premier League all credited with an interest in him.
Whether any of those sides actually move for him or are willing to match Everton’s demands, which are likely to be high for the Belgian, remains to be seen.
But it appears he plans to use the Euros as something of a stage for himself, to convince those top clubs that he is worth spending the big money on.
“I’m ready. For any role. I would like to play an important role, I hope to be on the field and help my teammates as best I can,” he said.
“We are more of a close team than ever. Everyone has the same goal: to get as far as possible. If everyone gives the best of themselves on the field, the tournament will be a success for me personally.
“That (showing yourself) happens almost automatically. At previous tournaments you have seen that the players who did well moved up to the top clubs.
“That’s something I strive for. I feel like presenting myself to the European top and showing what I have to offer. This European Championship is a stage.”
