Everton sent scouts to the game between Hoffenheim and Schalke on Sunday, according to claims in the German media.

Bild have confirmed Everton officials were present at the Bundesliga clash to watch Hoffenheim win 2-1. The Merseyside club were joined by clubs from the Premier League and across Europe, including Atletico Madrid, Valencia, Inter Milan, Everton, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

It’s been claimed the purpose of Everton’s trip to Germany was to get a lowdown on Hoffenheim defender Niklas Sule. The youngster has already been linked with a move to Chelsea in the summer, and has expressed a desire to play in the Premier League.

Sule made his debut for Hoffenheim in 2013, and has since made nearly 75 appearances in the league for the German club. His performances for his club earned him his first Germany appearance earlier in the year when he made his debut against Finland.

The 21-year-old is contracted to Hoffenheim until 2019 after extending his contract in the summer.
