Leeds United midfielder Liam Bridcutt has again been left out of the Scotland squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers. Despite a decent start to the season, and being made the new captain of Leeds United, the 27-year-old has been overlooked by Scotland manager Gordon Strachan.

Strachan has today confirmed his squad for October’s double header Lithuania and Slovakia as Scotland look to qualify for Russia 2018. There hasn’t been any explanation as to why Bridcutt has been left out, and whether it’s because he’s missed the last three league games.

However, Leeds United Garry Monk revealed a few days ago his captain would be making a quick return, so given he wasn’t selected for the game against Malta earlier in the month it seems he’s not currently in Strachan’s plans.

Bridcutt’s performances for Leeds United last season earned him a recall to the Scotland squad, and he was involved in the 1-0 win over Denmark in March, after a 3-year absence from the international scene.

In the last window Bridcutt sealed a permanent contract with Leeds United and the former Sunderland player signed a two-year deal with the club.
