It’s been a difficult start to the season for Matteo Darmian under Jose Mourinho. The Italian fullback has started just one game so far in the Europa League, and is yet to play a single minute in the Premier League.

Reports in the Italian media continue to link the former Torino defender with a return to Serie A. According to Italian website Calciomercato, Inter are keen on signing Darmian, but it’d be ‘almost impossible’ to sign him.

Earlier it was Calciomercato who reported Inter Milan tried to sign Darmian during the summer transfer window, and even sent Manchester United an email detailing their official approach.

At the moment, Darmian’s position at Manchester United isn’t really clear, and the Italian is expected to start in Manchester United’s Europa League match against Zorya on Thursday night.

If Jose Mourinho sees him as an important back-up player, and has no ideas about a replacement then a move is unlikely. However, if Mourinho has his eye on someone else, and AS Monaco’s Fabinho has been repeatedly linked, then Darmian could be leaving Manchester United over the next year.
