Norwich City rejected an offer from Everton for Marcelino Núñez at the start of the January transfer window.

That’s according to La Tercera and their sports section El Deportivo, who say Everton have taken notice of Núñez’s performances in the Championship and want to take him Goodison Park.

The newspaper reports that the 24-year-old is a ‘guarantee of talent’ at this moment in time, driving Norwich’s attempts to get back to the Premier League.

While that may be a distant dream mat this moment in time given Norwich at 19 points behind leaders Leeds United, his performances have aroused interest.

Everton have ‘took note of the conditions’ of the midfielder, believing that his profile fits perfectly with the style they want to play.

The Toffees have already made an attempt to sign him, offering $9m on the table but receiving a negative response from Norwich when they did. The Canaries simply didn’t see it as a ‘very attractive’ offer, particularly to sell a player they consider as vital to their plans.

Norwich’s valuation of the player or Núñez’s response to the bid aren’t mentioned, but it is made clear that Núñez would like to ‘take a leap in quality’ in his career. He saw a move to Norwich as the perfect stepping stone and would like to take that step soon.

It seems Everton need to up their bid if they are to get him out of Carrow Road, though, as their first proposal was deemed unacceptable by Norwich.
