Everton saw a deadline day offer for Sevilla right-back Juanlu rejected by the Spanish club, who were uninterested in the deal.

That’s according to Diario de Sevilla, who say Everton’s last-minute proposal was turned down out of hand by the Spanish side.

The newspaper explains that the last hours of each transfer window usually brings surprising offers and Everton were the ones offering it to Sevilla on Monday.

They knocked on the door at the last minute and made an offer to loan Juanlu until the end of the season without an option to buy. However, they were met with a negative response by Sevilla, despite the fact Juanlu hasn’t been playing much under manager Xavi García Pimienta.

They still consider Juanlu as part of the project for now and the future and are even in negotiations with him to renew his contract. Because of that, they didn’t consider letting him join Everton until the end of the season.

They’d instead prefer to keep him at the club and part of their squad rather than bolstering David Moyes’ at Goodison Park.

How Everton intended to sign the defender on loan is up for debate given their current loan spots are filled, and they added Charly Alcaraz on loan on deadline day as well.

Of course that doesn’t matter as the offer was rejected anyway, but he may be a name to keep an eye on in future.
