From all the clubs who got linked to Porto striker Luis Diaz in the past few months, it sounded like Everton were those who actually made an effort for his signing, as an attempt was reported back in the summer.

The Portuguese media actually believes the Toffees tried to sign the Porto striker back then, even though recent reports said the amount offered wasn’t even close to what the Dragons demand for the 24-year-old.

Now as the race for Diaz continues, as he’s shown great form for Porto so far in this season, news from the player’s home country claim that Everton are still chasing his signing.

Journalist Pipe Sierra claims the Toffees were ‘very close’ to signing him back then and ‘remain interested’ in the winger.

Diaz is currently protected by a release clause worth €80m, although Sierra claims that Everton and other clubs who ‘asked’ for information now know that they can sit and negotiate with Porto with around €50m.

Recent reports from Portugal have been making it clear that the Dragons don’t want to lose the player in the middle of the season, so an agreement for a summer move would undoubtedly be easier to find.
