Everton are ‘ready’ to make their move for Udinese striker Beto this summer but will need to match his €35m release clause to get him.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who explain that it is unlikely Beto will be remaining with the Italian side beyond the summer.
The Portuguese forward has scored 21 goals in the last two seasons and that has earned him admirers inside and outside of Italy.
Everton and Napoli in particular are ‘ready’ to make their move for him, having already shown an interest in the January transfer window.
Indeed, Everton offered €28m for him at that point as they desperately scrambled to sign a forward that month, but the offer was rejected, with the player also preferring to stay in Italy until the end of the season.
That has not deterred the Toffees, though, and they are now ready to make a second attempt to try and bring the striker to Goodison Park.
Udinese are aware, and accept, that it will be hard to keep hold of him but ‘do not want to make discounts’ on a player who is currently tied to a contract until 2026. Thus, they will insist that his €35m release clause be met and stick to that.
Part of the reason they will do so is the fact that Portimonense, the club Udinese signed Beto from two seasons ago, hold a clause that guarantees them 50% of any resale. Udinese therefore want to ensure they get as much as possible for their star.
They’ve already secured a replacement for him so are planning for Beto to leave but whether that’s to Everton, who would have to shell out money it’s easy to imagine they don’t have, remains to be seen.
