Everton need to offer more to Ajax if they are to seal a late deal for striker Chuba Akpom at the end of the January transfer window.
That’s according to De Telegraaf, who say while the striker may be on the market, at this point a departure is unlikely.
The newspaper, via Voetbal Primeur, report that there are currently obstacles in the way of Akpom’s potential departure from the Dutch giants.
Clubs such as Everton, Luton and Lille are believed to have contacted Ajax about a potential move and the striker ‘would not be unwilling’ to accept a transfer.
However, all of the interested parties only want to loan Akpom until the end of the season and so a deal at the end of the window seems unlikely.
Ajax would be willing to cooperate with a loan deal if a mandatory purchase option was included in the deal, set at €15-20m. None of the sides have offered such a deal at this point.
That makes sense for Everton, who are publically short on money and unable to move with what they do have given their two PSR breaches to date.
If they do want the striker, they need to find a way to sweeten the deal for Ajax and avoid their own financial issues, which is clearly a difficult task at this point in the window.
