Everton are making a ‘final assault’ for Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto with the Toffees trying everything possible to get him out of Elland Road.

That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, who say Gnonto remains in Everton’s sights, and they are ‘trying hard’ to secure his signature.

The Blues have been keen on the Italian winger all summer but long and protracted negotiations with Leeds have never reached a positive outcome, with the Championship side insisting he is not for sale.

Gnonto even went on strike at one point, refusing to play and insisting his head was not in the right place, although he has now been successfully reintegrated into Daniel Farke’s squad.

Everton appeared to have given up, but they are back on deadline day with a last minute assault on Leeds to get their man.

The Toffees’ finances have been boosted by the imminent departure of Alex Iwobi, who is currently at Fulham completing a medical ahead of a move to Craven Cottage.

And it appears Everton are planning to use the funds from that sale to try and finally bring in Gnonto, with the player’s agent currently in London working on the deal.

According to TMW’s information, there is still ‘the desire’ from the player and his entourage to make the move to Goodison Park and the hope is that they can get it done before tonight’s deadline.

That will of course depend on Leeds, who have resisted all efforts so far to prise Gnonto out of Elland Road.
