Napoli manager Gennaro Gattuso has been accused of ‘infinite hypocrisy’ after recent comments about his situation at the club following his treatment of Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti prior to his arrival.
Gattuso has found himself under increasing pressure at Napoli this season, with them currently fifth in the table and nine points behind leaders AC Milan.
That has seen increased speculation about his future, with reports claiming that Aurelio de Laurentiis was thinking about making a change.
Indeed, those same reports indicated that he may have already been in touch with former manager Rafa Benitez, who is free after leaving his job in China, about a potential return to the club.
Italian journalist Umberto Chiarello is having none of that, though, labelling him a hypocrite given how he treated Everton boss Ancelotti to get the Napoli job in the first place.
“Gattuso has gone off the deep end. He lost his friendship with Ancelotti when he dealt secretly with De Laurentiis,” he told Radio Punto Nuovo, relayed by Area Napoli.
“Anyone who says Ancelotti already had an agreement with Everton is lying.
“It’s normal for a president to look for a replacement when he has doubts.
“This seems to me to be something of infinite hypocrisy that has only created problems for the club.
“The players need to know that no one is sending the coach away because the president doesn’t just want to send him away.”
