Everton could find themselves as part of Roma’s interest in Newcastle United winger Yankuba Minteh, if they are taken over by Dan Friedkin as expected.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who suggest Everton could buy Minteh from Newcastle before then sending him on loan to the Italian side.
The newspaper explains that Minteh is the latest name to be added to Roma’s list of potential targets this summer, with them having developed an interest in him after coming up against him in Europe this season, when he was on loan at Feyenoord.
The big problem is that Newcastle value him at €30m, a figure that Roma would like to bring down. They are exploring whether there is a possibility for them to do so.
One potential option could involve Everton, who are also interested in the winger as they look to strengthen Sean Dyche’s options.
They are set to be taken over by Roma owner Dan Friedkin this summer, with the American businessman’s group having entered into an exclusivity period with Farhad Moshiri for a takeover, which is now subject to due dilligence.
One potential hypothesis being floated is that Everton buy the youngster from Newcastle and then loan him to Roma, which would allow the Italian side to dodge adding a ‘very high cost’ to their budget.
It would essentially be the first operation between the two clubs, something which is expected to become a regularity in future should Friedkin’s takeover be successful.
The big question, though, is how Everton could suddenly afford to add a €30m cost to their own books given their issues with PSR.
Perhaps Friedkin and his team have a plan for this that works for all parties, including Roma, but given it will be weeks before their takeover is potentially finalised, we can’t see this idea being one that becomes reality.
