Everton are confident of completing a deal for Villarreal striker Thierno Barry in the next couple of days.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who report that Everton are working to close a deal for the 22-year-old as quickly as they can.

FM report that Everton are looking to negotiate with Villarreal so they can bring Barry’s current release clause, which is valued at €40m, downwards. They’ve already seen an offer rejected by the Spanish side.

Everton, though, believe that Barry wants to move to the Premier League and that has given them hope of getting the deal done.

Villarreal are seemingly determined to secure a big profit on Barry, who cost them €14m to sign from Basel last summer. It’s been a rapid rise for the 22-year-old, who was still playing in Sochaux’s reserve team in the third division in France three years ago.

Now he could be set for a move to the Premier League, with Everton presented as keen and determined to add him to David Moyes’ squad. He may be a direct replacement for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who looks set to depart on a free transfer on July 1st.

There’s no update in Spain on this transfer.
