Lazio’s Matteo Cancellieri is an ‘idea for Celtic‘ this summer as Martin O’Neill looks to improve his side’s attack next season.
That’s according to Saturday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport, who explain why Celtic have an easy route for the signing.
The Scottish champions seem to be working on a new winger. Earlier this month, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain of Celtic’s €4m bid for Haissem Hassan. Real Oviedo aren’t accepting this and are referring to his €12m release clause.
O’Neill’s side have also identified Cancellieri and his club teammate, Gustav Isaksen, as targets.

The Serie A side are working on offloading players who aren’t part of their plans and the list of those ‘set to leave’ is long. This includes Matteo Cancellieri, who is an ‘idea for Celtic’ this summer.
Cancellieri is in his final year of contract and his value, as per Transfermarkt, is €7m.
Therefore, Lazio are looking to get rid of him in this window to raise funds and to also avoid losing the 24-year-old for free in 2027.
Boost for Celtic
Gennaro Gattuso’s side are awaiting offers for Matteo Cancellieri. They have set a €15m price, which is more than double his current valuation.
Corriere claims the Biancocelesti are well aware there won’t be any offers in this region.
Lazio’s stance will certainly come as encouragement for Martin O’Neill’s side to sign the Italian.
Celtic or the winger’s other suitors could sign him for a lower fee, especially if there are no movements until the end of the transfer window.
For now, the attacker is only an idea for Celtic. Corriere don’t indicate or suggest whether O’Neill’s side are willing to make further advances.
Torino, Fiorentina and Olympiacos have also looked at him in recent months, but none of those have taken any steps.
Last season, the Italian managed four goals and two assists from 35 matches.
