French winger Loum Tchaouna has joined Coventry City from Burnley for a fee around £20m, signing a five-year deal.
The attacker played 29 times in the Premier League during the 2025/26 campaign, contributed to three goals, Tchaouna showed glimpses of his quality, having joined from Lazio in 2025.
The move to the Sky Blues comes at a crucial point of his career, as Tchaouna gets another big chance to prove himself in England.
A source close to the deal has now informed Sport Witness of the details behind the transfer.
Frank Lampard role key
The source made it clear that Coventry City manager Frank Lampard’s involvement was vital. He explained the project to Tchaouna before the transfer process got going.
“Yes, Lampard was one of the people who pushed a lot and the coach explained a big project to the boy to improve, work hard and it was a very interesting project.”
Sport Witness have also been told that despite Burnley’s poor Premier League season, Tchaouna was a hot property in the market. Two other clubs were keen on his signature.
The source informs us: “The other clubs interested were AS Monaco and PSV, who made offers to Burnley.”
Next season vital in player’s career
Sport Witness have been told that whether Tchaouna returns to Italy remains to be seen. He is focused on next season, which will also be massive for Coventry City.
“In the future, to come back to Italy, I’m not sure yet. What is important is for him to focus on what is happening at Coventry City.
“He has to give his 100%. He is still young, so you never know but now he has to focus on this season, it will be very important and interesting for him and the club.”
Our take: Right move for winger
The brightest spell in Tchaouna’s young career came at Salernitana. He played 33 times in the 2023/24 campaign for them, scoring four times and adding three assists. This helped him earn a move to Lazio.
Coventry City are similar to Salernitana on a relative basis. Their aim would be to stay in the division next season. City have shelled a significant amount of money on Tchaouna and should use him more regularly than Burnley did.
Lampard has a reliable track record of working with young players. Considering that, the decision to join the Sky Blues is very sensible for the 22-year-old.
