Real Madrid have made enquiries about Liverpool defender Ibrahim Konate as they look to sign at least one central defender in the summer.

That’s according to journalist Edu Aguirre for El Chiringuito, who says Konate is on Real Madrid’s list and could cost €60m.

Real Madrid are believed to be prioritising centre-backs in the summer transfer window after struggling in that area this season due to injuries to the likes of Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba and Eder Militao.

They’ve been forced to promote the likes of Raul Asencio early and use Aurelien Tchouaméni as an emergency central defender, something they do not wish to continue next season.

Moves are already being made to solve their issues next season, with several linking them to Bournemouth’s rising star Dean Huijsen this week.

Other names are likely to be on the list, though, and Aguirre insists that Konate is one of them, with Liverpool already putting a price tag on his head as a warning to their Spanish counterparts should they make any moves in the coming months to sign the French international.

“Madrid have asked about two players, they’ve tested two players,” he told El Chiringuito.

“They are two centre-backs, one is from Liverpool and is French, and that it is Konate. The second is in the Spanish team and he is Huijsen. They like them a lot and they tell me they have asked about those two.

“Especially Konate, although the truth is that he may be a signing who ends up arriving in 2026. He has a clause in his contract worth €60m. Therefore, if Liverpool want to negotiate it would have to be this year. But Liverpool are initially saying €60m or nothing.”
