Manchester City continue to be linked with River Plate star Enzo Fernández, a month after their owners, the City Football Group, denied having an interest in the midfielder.
The 21-year-old came up through the ranks of the Argentine side’s youth system before he was promoted to their first team in 2019. His performances this year seem to have caught the attention of clubs in Europe.
Among them are Manchester City as TNT Sports state the player is being ‘closely followed’ by the Premier League winners. Apart from them, Real Madrid also get a mention.
However, he is on the agenda of top European clubs and has a €20m release clause in his contract, a deal which lasts until December 2025. These two factors have left River concerned about the possibility of losing him in the next window.
Meanwhile, River Plate sporting director Enzo Francescoli has admitted being aware that Fernández is followed by several clubs.
“Due to his evolution, Enzo Fernández deserves a chance in the Argentine national team. He can give you many solutions. We all know that he is followed by many teams, it is difficult to venture into what can happen,” Francescoli told Radio Continental, relayed by La Pagina Millonaria.
Fernández has eight goals and five assists from 18 matches in all competitions.
