Torino signed Lucas Perri from Leeds United in the summer after a lot of effort. So far, his start to life in Italy hasn’t been great.
The Brazilian, who was keen on joining the Granata. The Whites soon created an auction, which allowed them to get a favourable deal late in the window.
Torino signed him on a free loan but offered an option to buy worth €16m. This was more than what they offered initially, putting forward an option to buy worth €10m until Leeds United used Marseille to raise their valuation.
The deal required significant hard work from Il Toro.
Inconsistent league debut
Torino outlet Toro describe Perri’s star to life as ‘Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde’. This is because he was rather inconsistent in his Serie A debut against Fiorentina.
He made a good save early on and in the second-half. But Mateo Pellegrino’s goal came because of his error. The Argentine’s shot from outside the box crept below his arms and Perri didn’t prove strong enough.
The outlet note that he was responsible for Monza’s goal against Torino in the Coppa Italia too. He failed to stop Dany Mota’s shot, knocking the Granata out of the competition.
That is why it is believed ‘uncertainty reigns’ over the 28-year-old, who was consoled by his teammates after the error against Fiorentina.
Now, Torino are awaiting the chance to see the ‘real’ Perri and the outlet urges him to improve.
Player still settling in
Perri has already noted that he is living in a hotel. Besides, he doesn’t know the language yet and is still settling into life in Turin.
Clearly, he needs time to play at his best. The delays in the deal probably impacted this, but he is the undisputed first-choice and has enough time to get things back on track.
Leeds United will be keeping a close eye on this, given the purchase clause.
