Gençlerbirligi General Manager Ali Ekber Düzgün has released a statement to reveal Baran Yıldız is on the verge of signing for Newcastle United.

The 18-year-old has been linked with a move to the Magpies in recent days following reports they’d reached an agreement for his arrival.

Hurriyet have covered comments Düzgün has made to the Turkish media when discussing the youngster’s situation with Newcastle United.

Düzgün said Yıldız is close to a transfer to St James’ Park and if there are no complications he will be signing a contract with the Premier League side.

“In the case of Baran’s transfer, the work is down to the official signature. It has not yet been officially concluded. But as long as there are no surprises, our young football player is on his way to England,” said Düzgün.

On Friday, we covered reports that Yıldız has agreed a 4.5-year deal with the English side after reports of transfer talks between the two clubs.

Yıldız has yet to make his senior debut for the Ankara club and is currently involved with their U19s team. In total he’s played 27 games across all Gençlerbirligi’s age groups, scoring seven goals.

Given it will be difficult for Newcastle United to get a work permit for Yıldız, perhaps he will be loaned back to Gençlerbirligi.
