Sporting’s Morten Hjulmand isn’t influenced by the recent reports linking him with a move to Tottenham Hotspur. This was explained by the player himself during a chat with Bold.dk.
Last summer, the midfielder left Serie A side US Lecce for the Lions and has enjoyed an impressive debut season in Portugal, managing three goals and four assists from 40 matches.
Earlier this month, Record stated Tottenham had sent officials to watch the 24-year-old for the past few weeks. It was also said they collected positive reports from their scouting trips.
On Monday, the same newspaper reported Tottenham have the player on their shortlist for the summer and that everyone at Portuguese club are trying to convince him to snub Ange Postecoglou’s side.
The Denmark international is currently on international duty and it gave Bold.dk a chance to ask him directly about the latest reports of Spurs’ interest.
He said: “I don’t really care that much about it. I’m focusing on a very, very long season right now with Sporting, where we have many matches. There’s still a long way to go. We have an ambition that we set out before the season started, and we want to fulfil it.”
Bold.dk added the player is in ‘no way affected’ by the reports of Tottenham’s interest in him.
“There are so many rumours in international football that it’s hard to make sense of it all. So, to be honest, it’s not something I spend time on,” Hjulmand explained.
“If I did, I could spend hours and hours speculating. But it’s not something I spend time on. I spend time on my daily life at Sporting and optimising myself there as a player.”
The Dane’s deal lasts until 2028 and for now, he’s only focused on finishing the season with Sporting on a brighter note. It’s worth noting Hjulmand is an Arsenal fan and has their crest tattooed on his arm.
