Monday saw news from Italy emerge claiming that not only were AS Roma interested in West Ham United’s Gianluca Scamacca, but AC Milan had also joined the race.

Following the retirement of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the dud transfer that was Divock Origi’s, the Serie A side want to improve their attack, which is where the Hammers’ forward comes in.

Gazzetta dello Sport provide the latest in that dossier, stating in a headline that West Ham’s Scamacca is the ‘first 9 on the list’ at San Siro, ahead of the likes of Alvaro Morata.

They suggest the towering Italian could ‘join from West Ham on loan’, although the vast majority of reports have made it clear David Moyes’ side aren’t interested in such a deal.

Still, he’s an avenue the Champions League semi-finalists are exploring, and ‘discussions are underway’ about him in Milan, where they want to ‘understand how much he could bring’ and ‘how much he would cost’.

After all, it seems unlikely that West Ham will let him go there for one season, free of charge, but if push comes to shove, they may give in to the idea of allowing him to have a good season elsewhere on a temporary basis for him to come back to London replenished and with more experience under his belt.

Something to keep in mind as we edge towards the very start of the European transfer window.
