Celtic are keen on adding FC Nordsjælland’s Benjamin Nygren to Brendan Rodgers’ squad this summer.

On June 14th, journalist Sacha Tavolieri stated Anderlecht, who have shown interest, consider the winger is on his way to Celtic. Expressen also reported the two clubs are close to an agreement for his transfer.

Since then, there’s been several claims in the UK about Celtic making advances to sign the 23-year-old.

Tipsbladet have interviewed Nordsjælland football director Alexander Riget and also cover the latest on the Celtic target. The Danish official talked about the desire to sign a new attacker in this window.

“We look for players in different positions on the pitch where they can help raise our level and provide more stability,” he said.

“For example, we can see that there is a lot of early interest in young offensive players, so it’s always a good idea if we have a player like Benjamin Nygren, who has performed well over a number of years and given us stability in the front line.

“In addition to looking for an offensive player, we’re also looking at other positions. So, we’re going to be active in the summer transfer window. It costs some money, but with the right quality we are ready to invest.”

Tipsbladet report Riget mentioned signing a new attacker because Nygren is set to move elsewhere. They point out their recent claim which stated he’s very close to joining Celtic.

They add the Scottish champions want to buy the player for ‘double-digit million’, without making it clear whether that’s in euros or DKK. Either way, Nordsjælland take into account that Nygren will be sold in this window.

According to the report, the chance of the player desired by Celtic leaving in the ‘next few days is even very high’.
