RB Leipzig’s football director Markus Krösche has insisted there has been no contact over Timo Werner, despite a whole host of clubs being linked to the striker.
Werner has been in red-hot form this season, with 27 goals and 11 assists in 34 games in all competitions so far.
That form has sparked suggestions he is in line for a mega move this summer, with Liverpool linked most repeatedly.
There have been regular reports that they will make a move in the summer, with one claiming that Jürgen Klopp ‘wants’ the player and has identified the German as the ideal man to bolster his current side.
Indeed, there were even claims that Liverpool had been in contact in January, but Krösche insists that there have been no offers or talks with any club.
“(There’s been) nothing at all,” he told SportBILD.
“But it gives me no sleepless nights. We are prepared in case someone should contact us. This applies to every player.”
Part of the continued rumours about a move to Liverpool has been the suggestion that Werner has a release clause included in his deal.
This was backed up by journalist Christian Falk last month, who claimed that such a clause, for between €55-60m existed, but would have to be activated before the end of April.
Krösche refused to comment on such speculation but insisted that Leipzig have a plan in place should any club come calling.
“Timo has a long-term contract, and there are not so many things that would make him leave us,” he added.
“We play in the Champions League, we have a great coaching team, and we still want to achieve a lot.
“Some things are the way they are. Therefore, we must always be prepared and think about tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.
“Nobody is naive enough to think: Oops, now he’s gone; let’s have a look.”
