Borussia Dortmund director of football Sebastien Kehl has admitted they’ve been left shocked by the speed of negotiations with West Ham United for striker Niclas Füllkrug.
Kehl has been speaking to Sky in Germany, relayed by Fussball Transfers, about the impending transfer and how it has proven to be out of their control.
West Ham have moved quickly to sign Füllkrug this week, initially seeing a €25m offer rejected before reaching an agreement last night on a deal that will eventually cost €30m.
It’s been explained that their efforts to sign the striker have left Dortmund in something of a dilemma, as they were planning with Füllkrug this season despite the signing of Serhou Guirassy.
It seems they have instead valued the money they can make on the 31-year-old now, with him arguably at the peak of his career and value and the German side deciding to cash in rather than keep him now West Ham have made a bid they find sufficient.
The deal has progressed quickly over the course of the last 48 hours and Kehl admits he and everyone else at Dortmund have been left slightly aghast at that.
“The events of the last few days have been a bit out of control,” he is quoted as saying.
“To be honest, it was not our intention to bring up the subject of Niclas Füllkrug again.
“That has developed very quickly in the last two days, also through many discussions that we of course had with the player. (We will see) what happens today and tomorrow.”
