Last week, reports from the Swedish media claimed AIK are interested in signing Ismaila Coulibaly from Sheffield United.

The club’s chase for the player had already been revealed last year, and now it’s said they really started moving for the transfer, putting ‘everything aside’ to work on the move.

It turns out that as Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagblade today features a story with AIK sporting director Thomas Berntsen about the transfer window, they directly asked him about the Sheffield United player.

The club chief had no problems confirming that they’re chasing Coulibaly, claiming they’ve been following the player for a long time.

“We picked him up when he was young and spent a lot of time finding the right position. When he finally got to play in the Elite League, he quickly became so damn good that he was sold to the Premier League. We have a dialogue with both the player and Sheffield, but it can be difficult to make it work financially.”

Berntsen even detailed the ideas they have for Coulibaly in their team.

“His best position is perhaps 8th and 10th. He is very good at getting into the box and good in the air. It depends on what happens with Omar, there has been some interest around him. “

Coulibaly only made one appearance for Sheffield United this season, as he was a starter in the team which was defeated by Lincoln City in the EFL Cup.

The Blades seem to have no big reason to hold the midfielder in the squad, and with him desperately looking for more minutes, that’s an exit we should see happening in the coming weeks.
