Chelsea’s chase for Palmeiras wonderkid Estevão Willian became a big story last week, with reports from Spain and Brazil claiming the Blues are moving seriously for the 16-year-old.

As Brazilian outlet Lance shares a story on the pursuit, they bring an interesting point on the strategy the Stamford Bridge side will use to get the signing done.

The website starts by pointing out that Barcelona have a couple of advantages over Chelsea in this race. The first is the player’s wish, as he dreams of moving to the Camp Nou, and the second is the great relationship with his agent.

That’s why the Blues reportedly have a different plan, as they’re trying to build a closer relationship with Palmeiras.

The story claims that Chelsea have been in talks with the Brazilian side’s board since the end of last year. They want to create a bond which places them in the lead for the signing.

Although those are the two main clubs in the race, it’s said the likes of Paris Saint Germain, Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United have all made approaches for the transfer as well.

Another interesting claim made by Lance is that Estevão’s release clause is worth €45m, contrary to recent reports which said €60m. So that makes it a much more attractive for Chelsea to sign the teenager, who’s one of the most promising youngsters in South America right now.

However, he cannot physically move to Europe until he turns 18.
