On Monday, we covered multiple claims from the Belgian media explaining that Brighton & Hove Albion’s Andi Zeqiri is on his way to KRC Genk.
The striker’s deal is until 2024 and it was also said he will leave Brighton on a permanent transfer.
Het Belang van Limburg have a report on the Brighton player and in the summary, they say his transfer to Genk was ‘completed on Monday evening, except for a few details’.
Within the report, HBVL state it ‘looked like Zeqiri’s transfer would be completed’ on Monday so that he could be registered to play in the Europa Conference League group stage.
The deadline to finalise the squad for Europe was yesterday, and although the report says the 24-year-old’s transfer ‘was completed’ on Monday, there has been no communication from Genk so far.
The Switzerland international’s move to the Belgian club is set to go through as HBVL say he’ll be the ‘new striker of KRC Genk’.
The Brighton forward has already held talks with his compatriot and Genk’s Bastien Toma, about a move to the Jupiler Pro League side.
“Did we speak to each other before his choice for Genk? Yes, we also have the same management, so we hear each other regularly,” he told HBVL.
Toma has even backed Zeqiri to be a success at Genk.
“I have known Andi for a long time, he’s a good friend of mine,” Toma explained.
“What kind of player is he? I think he’s a very complete striker. He has a good left foot, a great shot and feels fine when he has to make a run.
“In addition, he’s a hard worker and contributes more than his share defensively. He will also be good with his teammates, because Andi is a very nice boy. He likes joking, but also knows when to be serious. I’m convinced that he will be successful here.”
