There’s increasing confidence coming from Italy on behalf of Newcastle United and the purchase of Malick Thiaw.
The transfer situation has been reported for over a week in the Italian media and the confidence has gradually grown in that time. AC Milan hadn’t initially been keen to sell the defender but they don’t to force him to stay if he both wants to leave and they can get a decent fee for him.
Previous reports had stated Newcastle United were prepared to offer €30m, with the Rossoneri at that time thought to be holding out for €40m.
Sunday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport brings that down a little.
The Italian newspaper reports Strahinja Pavlović is close to arriving at Milan from Red Bull Salzburg, and that will fee up Thiaw who is ‘probably’ on his way out.
It’s then simply stated ‘Destination Newcastle’, and said the Serie A club ‘want to get at least €35-40m’ and are waiting for the Magpies to relaunch.
Reading between the lines, €35m should do the trick for the Premier League club, perhaps with that amount even including bonuses.
