Liverpool star Alisson Becker believes Federico Chiesa has been handed an opportunity to relaunch his career at Anfield.

The Reds will take on AC Milan in the Champions League at the San Siro on Tuesday. Ahead of this tie, the goalkeeper spoke to Sky Italia, relayed by Gianluca Di Marzio.

Towards the end of the summer window, Liverpool took Chiesa from Juventus and offered him a long-term deal.

The Italy international suffered a serious knee injury in January 2022. Since then, he has picked up multiple injuries until the start of this year. Chiesa’s qualities have impressed the goalkeeper, who has backed him to succeed at Liverpool.

“Chiesa immediately showed his quality, but what struck me is the smile on his face, he arrived with the desire to do many things for the team and the gratitude to play for Liverpool; it’s as if life has given him another opportunity, a magnificent opportunity to do what he loves at a club like this,” he said.

The Brazil international arrived in Europe when AS Roma signed him from Internacional in 2016. He spent two years with the Serie A side and then moved to Liverpool in 2018. The European fixture against Milan will see the stopper return to Italy.

“Returning to Italy is always a pleasure, I really like your country,” Alisson explained.

The goalkeeper has kept three clean sheets in four games this season. He conceded only once, and it was in Liverpool’s defeat to Nottingham Forest last weekend. Alisson claims Arne Slot’s side want to bounce back from this result against Milan.

“We have a lot of expectations. We did a great job in the first month starting well. Then on our return from the national teams we didn’t do well against Nottingham. But tomorrow we will have the opportunity to change things,” he added.
