At this point, it’s almost a known secret that Tanguy Ndombélé will be returning to Tottenham at the end of the season.
Nothing has been made official yet, of course, but the general consensus in Italy is that he’s too expensive for Napoli, who are already looking at ways to replace him.
This is what Ciro Venerato reported on Tuesday when asked about the Tottenham man’s future and the Serie A’s plans without him on 1 Station Radio, relayed by Tutto Napoli.
For the journalist, it wasn’t a matter of whether Ndombélé would stay, but more who would take his place in Luciano Spalletti’s side next season.
He said: “A lot depends on the money you have on hand. With the sale of Osimhen, the club will be able to make use of an important economic base to invest in other departments as well, being able to also invest in players such as Frattesi.
“Should, however, Osimhen remain, there would be less economic strength to focus on players like the one currently in force at Sassuolo, and certainly different profiles would be chosen. Furthermore, late transfer shots are not excluded, taking advantage of some redundancies from a top club. Interest in Lecce’s Hujlmand cannot be ruled out either. It is a knot that will only be untied in the summer”.
Therefore, it’s fair to say that Ndombélé can kiss a stay in the south of Italy goodbye, and he will be moved on from in Naples.
For Tottenham, it’s just another headache to deal with this summer despite him making 39 appearances in all competitions with the Italian club, even if most of those were from the bench.
