Earlier on Monday, we covered an article from L’Equipe claiming that both Nottingham Forest and Fenerbahçe were in the best position to sign Alexander Djiku.
The defender is currently a free agent after his contract at Strasbourg ran out, and with Steve Cooper wanting a new centre-back in his squad, a free transfer made a lot of sense.
It was even stated Nottingham Forest had made a contract offer for the 28-year-old, but he won’t be heading to City Ground, according to Fussball Transfers.
They claim Fenerbahçe have ‘taken pole position’, and the belief a deal ‘could be finalised’ as early as ‘within the next few hours’.
The Turkish side will ‘now enter into the final negotiations’ with the player’s entourage, before it’s recalled that clubs such as Lille in Ligue 1 and Nottingham Forest in the Premier League have also been mentioned as potential rivals in the race for the centre-back.
Unfortunately for Steve Cooper and his negotiating team, it appears the Tricky Trees will need to look elsewhere if they want to bolster the City Ground defence this summer.
