Maximilian Wöber could leave Leeds United, months after he arrived at Elland Road from Red Bull Salzburg in January.
Earlier this month, journalist Peter Linden reported the 25-year-old has an ‘opt-out clause’ in his contract that can allow him to change clubs either on loan or through a sale.
Today’s Rheinische Post states the Leeds player is on Borussia Mönchengladbach’s radar.
The Bundesliga side could see Nico Elvedi leave this summer after he refused to extend his contract, which expires in 2024. The newspaper states they have identified Wöber as a target and their ‘Plan A’ is to take him on a loan deal.
Wöber can be deployed in the heart of defence and as a left-back, which seems to have pleased the German club.
Over at Westdeutsche Zeitung, they state Mönchengladbach have ‘reoriented’ their plans to find a replacement for Elvedi and a deal to sign the Leeds defender ‘should now be favoured’.
The report points out the clause in the Austria international’s contract can allow him to leave Leeds on a loan deal, after their relegation from the Premier League.
It’s stated this makes Wöber’s signing ‘interesting’ for ‘financially cautious’ Gladbach.
