Leeds United are chasing Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Lukas Ullrich, according to Bild.
Daniel Farke left the Bundesliga club to join Leeds in July 2023 and Gladbach signed the left-back on a free transfer in the same month.
The defender played 23 games in the 23/24 season and 33 last season and is on Leeds’ list for this summer.
The reports adds VfL Wolfsburg have identified the 21-year-old as a target and now face competition from England. Recent claims in the UK have mentioned Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton as his suitors.
Bild relay that and then provide their own take on the Whites. They state Leeds are keen on signing the fullback, who is now with Germany U21s at the ongoing European championship. They face England U21 in the final on Saturday.
This isn’t the first time Farke has ‘wanted to poach’ a player from his former club as both Nico Elvedi and Julian Weigl are of interest to Leeds. The report suggests the Premier League newcomers won’t be able to afford the duo, but that isn’t the case with Ullrich.
Gladbach sporting director Roland Virkus is determined to retain Ullrich and has offered a new contract until 2029. He needs approval from the board to significantly increase the player’s salary.
Bild end their report by stating: ‘It cannot be ruled out that Gladbach may even end up losing both left-backs as a result: Netz, because he no longer believes in his prospects in the Bundesliga. And Ullrich, because Gladbach can no longer turn down offers from England once they reach a certain size…’
There’s no clarity on the fee needed to convince Gladbach or whether Leeds will make a bid.
