Following the saga it took for Sporting to find an agreement with Coventry City to sign Viktor Gyökeres, there’s huge expectation about his arrival at the club.
Portuguese newspaper Record today features a story about the situation, claiming the striker is now about to complete the move this week.
Even though Coventry City’s squad already started their pre-season in Portugal, Gyokeres did not follow his teammates there.
According to the report, the striker is currently ‘packing his bags’ and should travel to Lisbon on Tuesday.
Gyokeres is expected to sign a five-year deal with Sporting and join the Lions’ squad before the weekend.
It’s recalled that the Lisbon side will be paying Coventry City €20m for the transfer, plus €4m depending on performance bonuses.
The striker is set to become Sporting’s record signing, so there’ll be lots of pressure involved in his arrival at the club.
Gyokeres joined Coventry City in a move from Brighton in 2021, with the Championship side spending just €1.2m to secure him. He now leaves the club with 43 goals and 17 assists in 116 appearances.
