Botafogo have shown interest in Jeremy Sarmiento, according to Brazilian journalist João Van Boysen.
The Rio de Janeiro side have made initial enquiries for the Brighton & Hove Albion winger and presented a project that was well received by the player, but no formal offer has been made at this stage.
Van Boysen adds that Sarmiento’s profile is well liked by Botafogo’s board, who are working to strengthen their squad for the second half of the year. Still, the talks remain at a preliminary stage.
Sarmiento joined Brighton in 2021 after leaving Benfica’s academy, with the Seagulls reportedly paying a compensation fee of around £500k. In 2023, he signed a contract extension until June 2026.
The 23-year-old spent last season on loan at Burnley, making 12 Premier League appearances. His time at the Turf Moor included a goal against Fulham in January, but limited minutes overall.
A new move could offer more regular opportunities, particularly in a league where his style may stand out.
What comes next will depend on whether Botafogo decide to move forward with a concrete proposal.
