Trabzonspor will consider signing Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho if they fail to retain Southampton’s Paul Onuachu, according to Milliyet.
Last summer, the Saints allowed the 29-year-old striker to join the Turkish club on loan and he’s impressed for them this season, managing nine goals and three assists from 19 games.
Trabzonspor are keen on extending his loan stay for one more season and have started talks with Southampton, who are only looking to get rid of Onuachu through a permanent sale.
Southampton’s tough stance has seen the Süper Lig side look for alternatives and this is where the Leicester player fits in.
Milliyet state Trabzonspor have a few players on their list, including Iheanacho. His deal with the Foxes lasts until the end of this season and he hasn’t been relied upon by Enzo Maresca this year.
The 27-year-old Nigerian has made four appearances for Leicester since returning from AFCON in February.
Trabzonspor have started researching the cost needed to sign the Leicester frontman. It’s said their management are expected to make first contacts with Iheanacho soon, once Trabzonspor manager Abdullah Avcı gives approval.
In short, Southampton’s tough stance on Onuachu has seen Trabzonspor work harder to look for a plan B and the Leicester man has now ended up on their radar.
