If Maximilian Wöber was hoping the international break could provide some hope after finding himself out of the picture at Leeds, he was sorely wrong.
That’s at least if the latest from Kronen Zeitung is to be believed, with the player now ‘suffering from knee problems’.
We covered a report yesterday that explained the Leeds defender may have a fitness issue that will ultimately rule him out of this international break.
Wöber had suggested last week that he’s been suffering from a calf injury, which he felt was the real reason he wasn’t playing for Leeds since returning from a loan spell last season.
He then played for Austria in the 1-1 draw with Slovenia, with Ralf Rangnick later revealing there as an issue. The fear was that his calf injury had flared up again.
Kronen Zeitung, though, report that Wöber was absent from the defeat to Norway this week as he’s ‘suffering from knee problems’.
That meant Rangnick had to turn to Philipp Lienhart instead, with the Leeds man missing out entirely.
There’s no mention of the nature of the injury or how big of a problem it is, but the fact he was forced to miss the clash with Norway cannot be a good thing.
It now remains to be seen if it’s a long-term issue, to add to the calf injury he was already struggling with, to keep him out of Leeds first team even longer.
