It was only a matter of time, but West Ham United have made a second offer for Lucas Paqueta, intent on signing the Brazilian from Lyon.
David Moyes never tried to hide it for one minute, either, when asked in a press conference about it, making it very clear that they were going all out for the midfielder.
The first bid, said to be of around €50m or so, was turned away by the Ligue 1 side, but L’Equipe in France are now claiming that West Ham have upped the money and put a €57m package on the table.
As things stand, Lyon ‘have not yet responded, but the positions are getting closer’, meaning the Hammers are heading in the right direction to try and meet what the French club want for their star.
The first bid was €41m + €8m in bonuses, but on Thursday morning, West Ham returned with the €57m bid, said to be €42m + €15m in bonuses that are ‘quite easily attainable over the duration of the contract’.
Wanting €60m for their player, Lyon now have a decision to make, but L’Equipe do point out that ‘at this rate, the transfer could be completed quickly’.
As for Paqueta himself, ‘he hasn’t spoken with the Hammers yet’, and he will need to find an agreement with them to allow this to go through.
However, it’s added that his agents ‘have been in London for a few days to find him a landing spot’, which is probably why we are seeing West Ham throwing all this money at Lyon in the last few days of the transfer window.
