West Ham United could soon lose the race for Zeno Debast, if the latest reports from Portugal are to be believed.
Newspaper Record today features a story claiming the player is taking ‘large steps’ to become Sporting’s newest signing.
It’s claimed that the Lions already have an agreement for a five-year deal with Debast, and are close to a deal with Anderlecht as well. The process could then get closed ‘this week’.
West Ham are again named as one of the competitors for the signing, with Record pointing the recent rumours which named the Hammers, Napoli and Eintracht Frankfurt.
Still, there’s a lot of confidence it’s really Sporting who’ll win that race, with the Lions working to get the €16m signing done as soon as possible.
It sounds like West Ham could easily afford that amount, especially for a target who they’ve been following for a while now.
But since the club are clearly working on David Moyes’ replacement, with Julen Lopetegui lined up, it seems they’ll have to sort out that priority before actually moving for the next manager’s first summer signings.
