Injured on international duty, Alexis Sánchez could miss an extended period of time, which has set a few alarm bells ringing at Inter.
Currently on loan from Manchester United, the forward was expected to play a fairly big role under Antonio Conte, but that will have to wait, ultimately leaving a hole in the Italian’s attack.
That means someone else might have to come in, and FC Inter News claim that ‘one of the names circulating in the past few hours’ has been that of Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud.
The France striker, who scored both of his country’s goals during this international break, has found life difficult at Stamford Bridge of late, with Frank Lampard preferring Tammy Abraham in most competitions, and the 31-year-old has made it clear something needs to change or he could leave.
It’s stated the ‘feeling’ between Conte and Giroud from their time at Chelsea together has ‘stayed’, but the player’s wages of €8m/year could make potential negotiations ‘difficult’.
So far, only ‘probes’ have been sent out by Inter, but the website say that could change in the coming weeks.
They also put in their headline that Giroud ‘appreciates’ Serie A, wanting a two-and-a-half year contract should he sign with someone in January.
That’s quite the commitment, but his performances for France clearly show the ability is still there, and he could be of use to Conte, who would already know what he’d be getting.
