Last month, Liverpool goalkeeper Adrián San Miguel revealed that he would like to return to Spain in the summer window.
The 37-year-old’s deal expires in June and Liverpool have offered him a new contract, which he hasn’t accepted yet.
Last week, we covered claims from Spain that the stopper has put Liverpool’s renewal offer aside as he favours joining Real Betis.
According to Estadio Deportivo, the La Liga side’s approach for the Spaniard is currently on ‘standby’.
Real Betis have to replace Claudio Bravo, and it’s not clear who will be their goalkeepers next season. They currently have Rui Silva as the only recognised stopper and their idea is to promote Fran Vieites to the first team.
The Spanish club will need a third goalkeeper, and everything depends on whether or not Silva leaves in the next window.
If he were to leave, Real Betis are internally debating two options. The first one is to bet on Vieites, sign a new goalkeeper and promote another player from their academy.
The second option is to sign two goalkeepers in the next window. In that case, Real Betis could consider signing Adrián. Despite having a renewal offer from the Reds, Estadio say he would be ‘eager’ to return to his former club.
Manuel Pellegrini will also have a say, but until Real Betis have better clarity, a possible deal for the Liverpool player is currently on standby. This would please the Reds in their efforts to extend his contract.
