Inter Milan will ‘try to ask’ for a discount from Chelsea for Romelu Lukaku but the Blues ‘may have other ideas’ about a permanent transfer.
That’s according to Tuttosport, relayed by L’Interista, who say the Italian side have already started to look towards June and what they will do regarding Lukaku.
He is currently on loan at the Italian side until the summer, having returned last year following his disappointing move back to Stamford Bridge.
According to Tuttosport, that loan deal includes a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ for the deal to extended by another 12 months but Lukaku has struggled to rediscover his form back in Italy.
If they do so the ball would be in Chelsea’s court and there is a belief they would send the proposal back and insist the original agreement be honoured. In fact, they might even ask for the inclusion of a redemption clause set at €45m for the summer of 2024.
That would, presumably, not be of interest to Inter given how Lukaku has struggled since his return. If they believe €8m has been poor business, then it would take a serious change in form for €45m to look like good business.
Either way, it appears that they will be entering into hard negotiations with Chelsea in the coming months, with the current deal they have agreed one they’re no longer happy with.
