Villarreal have identified Tottenham Hotspur’s Bryan Gil as one of the targets to improve their attack next season.

That’s according to El Desmarque, who state the La Liga club want to sign the Tottenham man, UD Las Palmas’ Alberto Moleiro and Atlético Madrid’s Rodrigo Riquelme if they qualify for the Champions League.

The Yellow Submarine are fifth in the table, three points behind fourth placed Athletic and three ahead of sixth placed Real Betis. The top five teams will qualify for the Europe’s elite club competition.

Last summer, Spurs allowed Gil to join Girona on loan with an option to buy set at €15m.

The winger scored four goals and registered three assists from 32 games before suffering an injury setback in March that ruled out him for rest of the season. Although his statistics aren’t that impressive, his performances for Girona haven’t gone unnoticed.

El Desmarque state it’s impossible for Girona, currently 15th, to pay €15m for the Spain international. Therefore, the 24-year-old has to return to the Premier League club, where he has a contract until 2026.

Villarreal ‘will now seek to sign’ the Tottenham owned player in the summer window. The report claims Gil’s asking price is more affordable for them, taking his contract situation into account.

Gil is unlikely to have a future at Tottenham, who would like to get rid of him permanently in the upcoming window.
