Three days ago, AS reported Eric Bailly has emerged as an option for Real Betis after Manchester United decided to offload him in the summer window. The La Liga side are also keeping tabs on other options, including Southampton’s Mohammed Salisu.
Estadio Deportivo state Real Betis sporting director Ramón Planes wants to bolster his side’s defence and sees the Manchester United centre-back as a ‘market opportunity’. Bailly’s deal expires in 2024 and he’s at the bottom of the pecking order at Old Trafford.
Although the Manchester United player is an option, the La Liga side’s main focus is to sign Salisu, who’s moved to the top of their list.
It’s claimed Southampton are looking to let go of the 24-year-old for several reasons and Manuel Pellegrini’s side are ‘very well placed’ to sign him.
The Ghana international’s deal expires in 2024 and he’s rejected several renewal offers. This, coupled with the Saints’ relegation from the Premier League, has convinced them to sell him this summer.
Salisu’s game time was restricted this year and Southampton reportedly cited a ‘mystery injury’ as a reason for that. ED say this was done to avoid devaluing him in the market.
The website adds the aforementioned factors make him a ‘market opportunity’ for Real Betis. It’s said Planes is preparing for a possible offensive to sign Salisu for less than half of his current market value of €18m.
Should Planes fail in his efforts, he could always shift his focus to other targets, including Manchester United’s Eric Bailly.
