If you followed the January transfer window with us, you’ll be very aware that Fiorentina have a strong interest in Lucas Torreira.
Already keen on the Uruguayan last summer, the Serie A side had to watch from afar as the midfielder was sent to Atlético Madrid on loan as part of (but not officially) the deal for Thomas Partey.
Torreira hasn’t exactly thrived under Diego Simeone, and there was heavy talk of him potentially cutting his stay in Spain short in January to get regular minutes elsewhere.
He ended up staying in the end, but a return to the Emirates will take place in the summer, however brief it might be.
We say that because Gazzetta dello Sport report Fiorentina are very much on the case regarding a transfer in the upcoming window.
The national newspaper explain the Serie A club’s idea ‘is to buy one great player per department’ and ‘the midfielder has been identified’.
Fiorentina are ‘well ahead in talks with Arsenal for Torreira’, with the Uruguayan having ‘already given the green light to return to Italy to Fiorentina’ where he will pair up with Nordin Amrabat.
They’ve got this all down to a T, it seems, and we’ll be keeping an eye on this, as it seems we could expect some kind of (perhaps unofficial) announcement well before the end of the season.
