As the impasse between Flamengo and Wolverhampton Wanderers for the transfer of João Gomes continues, journalist Venê Casagrande brings the latest updates on the talks.
First of all, we need to recall that Wolves were about to sign the midfielder for €17m, and the player had his bags packed for the move.
The problem is that Lyon have since showed up saying they’d pay a million more, and that stopped the transfer.
Casagrande claims that Gomes’ idea is to keep his word and move to Wolverhampton, as even Julen Lopetegui called him saying he wants him there.
However, Flamengo are no longer willing to accept their bid, and will only sell him to the Molineux side if they raise their offer.
Lyon, meanwhile, sent an official to Rio de Janeiro to speak to the player.
There they showed their plan, offering a four-year contract, one less than Wolves, with a similar salary to what he’d make in England.
It’s said there’s no decision for now, and it seems like the best of scenarios would be Wolverhampton raising their offer to convince Flamengo.
