Last week, when Pep Guardiola called Matheus Nunes one of the best players in the world, the Portuguese media came up with a list of clubs who are reportedly interested in the Sporting midfielder.
A story from newspaper Record claimed that among the many Premier League sides who like the 23-year-old, there’s a strong will from Everton and Newcastle United to sign him.
It was said that Toffees and Magpies are the two who ‘most insisted’ in the signing lately, with the St. James’ Park side even trying to land him on a loan and an option to buy for €12m.
Now it looks that whoever wants Nunes will have to spend a lot more, because according to A Bola, Sporting have now put a price tag on him.
The newspaper says Nunes’ valuation has going up ‘like an arrow’, and since he became a target for several European sides, offers are expected to arrive in Lisbon at the end of the season.
It’s said Sporting will only sell him for over €40m, and to negotiate that, they have a good margin of negotiation, as he’s protected by a release clause worth €60m.
So in case Everton and Newcastle are really interested, they better be ready not only to face competition, but also to pay a big price for the midfielder.
While that might not be an issue for the Magpies, the Toffees could end up thinking twice about joining this battle if those figures remains where they are.
