Manchester City are reportedly returning to the plan of signing Lucas Paquetá from West Ham United.
That’s said today by Fichajes, who claim that following an attempt last summer, which was stopped by an investigation into the midfielder’s gambling history, Pep Guardiola’s side will try again.
According to the story, the ‘salary agreement’ that Manchester City and Paquetá had last summer ‘still stands’. That means it’s now up to the treble winners to find a deal with West Ham, which they may not be too happy about.
Paquetá is currently valued by Transfermarkt at €65m. Since he still has a contract with the Hammers running until 2027, with an option for an extra year, it’s very likely they’ll demand more than that to let him go.
The gambling investigation hasn’t been concluded yet, but since both West Ham and Brazil confidently have him playing for their squads, Manchester City now seem more certain about the signing.
Fichajes highlights the very good season Paquetá has been having for West Ham, highlighting the reasons why Guardiola’s side haven’t forgotten about him in all these months after last year’s chase.
