With Arsenal constantly pushing to try and sign Moises Caicedo, it isn’t surprising to see Brighton & Hove Albion in the market for a new midfielder.
They have been linked with a few players, and one of the latest they made an attempt for is Sassuolo’s Maxime Lopez.
The diminutive midfielder appears to have been a target for Roberto De Zerbi, who is looking towards his former club to strengthen Brighton in the late stages of the transfer window.
However, their attempt, according to Foot Mercato in France, has been rebuffed.
The French website state that Lopez’s performances and qualities have ‘seduced’ those watching, and Brighton ‘positioned themselves to get a loan with an option to buy’.
Sassuolo, though, did not want to help their former manager out, and ‘rejected the approach’ from Brighton for their midfielder, who has a contract there until 2025.
The 25-year-old has been with the Serie A side since 2021, when he was bought from Marseille for a measly fee of €2m, and has since made 82 appearances in all competitions for them, scoring four goals and assisting another two.
